Compared to traditional air-cooled load banks, the Liquid Cooled Load Bank has significant advantages such as extremely high power density (the cooling capacity per unit volume can be 3 to 5 times that of air-cooled), extremely low noise (no large power fans), good sealing performance (not affected by dust and salt fog), and strong thermal stability (the cooling fluid has a large heat capacity and temperature fluctuations are small). It is particularly suitable for places with strict requirements for space, noise, and environmental adaptability, such as ships, offshore platforms, data centers, underground mine tunnels, and high-temperature workshops.


Structural Composition

The core heating element uses stainless steel tubular resistors or thick film resistor plates, which are immersed in a sealed cavity filled with cooling liquid, or the heat generated by the resistors is transferred to the cooling liquid through a heat exchanger (plate type or shell and tube type). The external part then uses a circulating pump to transport the hot cooling liquid to a remote radiator (air-cooled cooling tower or water-cooled chiller unit) for cooling. The control system continuously monitors parameters such as inlet and outlet water temperature, flow rate, resistor temperature, insulation resistance, etc., and automatically adjusts the rotational speed of the circulating pump or the opening degree of the cooling fan to keep the load temperature constant at the set value (usually 40-60℃). The Liquid Cooled Load Bank also has functions such as liquid leakage detection, low water level alarm, over-temperature protection, and anti-freezing. The power rating ranges from several kilowatts to several megawatts, and the voltage rating covers low voltage 400V to medium voltage 10kV.

Ship shore power and marine generator sets (as the ship cabins are enclosed, air-cooled heat exchange would worsen the ambient temperature; liquid cooling can remove the heat and discharge it outside the ship); emergency generator tests for offshore wind power platforms (high salt spray environment requires IP67 or higher sealing); backup power system for data centers (sensitive to noise, liquid-cooled loads can be placed in the basement and cooled through pipes to the outside); oilfield drilling platforms (high explosion protection requirements; liquid cooling has no risk of electrical sparks).


Selection Criteria

Type of coolant (pure water requires regular replacement and addition of anti-corrosion agent, ethylene glycol water solution is suitable for low-temperature environments);

Whether the head and flow rate of the circulating pump match the length of the on-site pipeline;

Heat dissipation method (air-cooled heat exchanger has low investment but is affected by environmental temperature, water-cooled type requires a cooling tower or chiller);

Whether the insulation monitoring function is complete (liquid may conduct electricity over a long period of use, and real-time monitoring of insulation to ground is necessary).


Maintenance Recommendations

It is recommended to replace the coolant regularly, clean the fins of the radiator, and check the aging condition of the sealing rings.
